Acts 1:8 Overview

Missions Overview

Acts 1:8, Matthew 28:18-20, and Romans 1:16 provide the structure for our mission activities.

"But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." Acts 1:8 NKJV

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.  Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen    Matthew 28:18-20 NKJV

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. Romans 1:16 NKJV

We apply these verses as a strategy to tell those who are perishing the Good News about the Lord Jesus in our local community, in Texas, North America, and throughout the world.

We are then to baptize and teach others how to grow and "follow after Jesus" by teaching them His word.

We are to not be ashamed of the powerful gospel of Christ as we share it with the Jew first and then the Gentile.

Local Missions
For this application of Acts 1:8, Jerusalem represents local community, for us it is Pearland, Houston, and the nearby counties. We support local mission efforts directly as a church body by "Praying, Giving, and Going". Our Global Impact Team (GIT) coordinates the efforts of church Members who are impacting the local community by supporting established local missions, establishing new ones, and responding to short-term needs with mission projectsmore info ...

Texas Missions
Judea is being likened to our great State of Texas. Our State Mission efforts are coordinated with the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention (SBTC). Our State Missions Team selects mission projects each year to connect our church members to the mission efforts of other churches in our state as well as the ministries operate from First Baptist Pearland. more info ...

National Missions
Samaria was a neighboring area with many similarities to Judea, but with some cultural differences. North America certainly includes cultural, political, and geographical diversity equal to that in Judea and Samaria.
Our Global Impact Team (GIT) coordinates its efforts with the North American Missions Board (NAMB). Both on-going and short-term mission projects are conducted each yearmore info ...

Global Missions
There are over 11,000 people groups in the world. People groups share a common language and culture. When God refers to nations in scripture, often He is referring to people groups. It is God's desire that all people groups hear about Jesus and have the opportunity to receive Him. It is our desire to do our part to reach the remaining 680+ people groups that currently have no exposure to the Gospel message. Our Missions Team selects and coordinates several mission trips each year with the help of the International Mission Board (IMB) and other ministries as the Lord leadsmore info ...

Annual Celebration
We come together each year as a church to celebrate what God has done through our obedience.  Our Global Impact Celebration is a time to review the past year, plan the coming year, meet front-line missionaries and hear of their work, learn from National and International Mission leaders about opportunities and acomplishments around the globe, and renew our resolve to ..."Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Sprit," Matt 28:19 NKJV.  more info ...
